Why Elaya

The name Elaya is inspired by the Basque name Elaïa, meaning "swallow." Elaya embodies a dual symbolism

Born in Barcelona, Monica has lived in seven countries and speaks six languages fluently. She is constantly breaking boundaries with not one, not two, but three engineering degrees including Polytechnique in Paris and an MBA from UC Berkeley Haas.

Adventurer, Monica holds a Guinness World Record for kitesurfing 1,016 kilometers along Brazil’s coast. After a severe motorcycle accident in 2019, she proved the power of dreams by crossing Lapland unassisted in -30°C with a sled and kite. She also reached the top 90 of 24,000 candidates in ESA’s astronaut program.

Professionally, Monica has worked for Schlumberger, Bain & Co, and Nestlé. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone at Wheel the World, a start-up promoting accessible travel. Wheel the World, une start-up promouvant les voyages pour les personnes en situation de handicap.

Now based in Switzerland, Monica has launched Elaya where she channels her energy and insight into helping leaders and businesses unlock their ability to dream big. Monica faces every challenge with a smile, a sense of humor, and a determination to conquer whatever life throws her way.

Who is Barbara? Buckle up, because she’s anything but ordinary! Born and raised in Paris and a graduate of HEC Paris, she could have taken a conventional path. Nope! Barbara has always preferred to explore new horizons. Her adventure in the luxury world at LVMH is proof: 15 years spent building bridges between unlikely worlds—local artisans, crocodile farms (yes, really!), and multinational corporations. She blended finance, sustainability, and artisanal craftsmanship while staying true to her passion: people. 

Now based in Geneva, at Elaya, Barbara combines human-centered leadership, neuroscience, coaching, and facilitation to help her clients turn complex transitions into inspiring opportunities. Her insatiable curiosity and talent for connecting people make her a truly unique partner.

But Barbara is so much more than that—she’s also an aspiring novelist (with an impressive collection of “first pages”), a frustrated singer, and the mom of three, including twins! Working with Barbara is a mix of efficiency, inspiration, and, let’s be honest, a dash of adventure! And damn, I love adventure! Are you up for some action?
